Important Keyword Locations

We have compiled this list to quickly help optimize web sites WHILE you write the content. By keeping a few things in mind while you create your content, you can save a lot of money for more SEO and Search Engine Marketing later.

  • Title - Keep your titles short (60-65 characters) and keyword rich. Remember that keywords from search results are likely to be highlighted if in your title.
  • Description - Your description is an opportunity to tell someone why they should click on your link as opposed to the one above (or below) you. Having natural language (not stuffed keywords) and a few important terms for the page in the first sentence helps. Just remember to keep it brief (I shoot for about 150 characters.
  • Headers - By using headers (like the one for this page "Important Keyword Locations" or "SEO Isn't Enough") you can add more weight to your key terms. But it also does something more important. It tells someone scanning the page what to read, much like underlining. So you can direct people's attention and tell them what you're about.
  • Normal Text - Make sure to actually use the keywords from the above locations in your text as well. You don't need to stuff your page with them, just white naturally. Some people say putting them in your first paragraph helps, but just using them normally is all that's needed.
  • Accented Text - You probably noticed that we're using accented text on this page. Using underlined, bold, and italics you can stress certain text on your page. This should be used in a natural method. Too much looks strange and can be seen as SEO spam. Using one or two naturally accented keywords per page is a good idea.
