The SEMMYS are search marketing awards dedicated to highlighting the best blog posts of the year. The best part about this web site is looking through the titles alone I see many of my favorite blog posts from the year. This page is an amazing resource for any business looking to promote on the web. While I haven't finished reading all of the posts (there are well over 100), there were some favorites that I'm about to share with you.
I personally use nofollow links to help push the flow of my web site where I need it. It is a dangerous strategy and you can do more harm than good, but there are some basics here which can apply to any web site. For example, most people don't need the contact page or their policy pages to rank. These are safe pages to nofollow on your multiple "contact us" type links and on your main menu. Dan goes in to a lot more detail and it's a great read for those who are interested.
Andy is an undeniable master of "link baiting". Link baiting is when you create something for your web site in hopes that it becomes popular and people link to it. Well, when the master of link bating decides to share his secrets, everybody links to it. Take a few minutes to soak in some of the best advice you'll ever read to building strong natural links to your web site. Andy is always worth a read and this was one of my personal favorite of 2007.
David shows a perfect example of how professional PPC management can get a company far better results for the same amount of money. The page looks kind of dull, and isn't easy to scan, but he shows how two simple changes took a client from 182 clicks per month with 2.47% click through, to 569 clicks per month with a 5.5% click through on the SAME BUDGET. The good news for my clients is that they don't have to pay David's $200 per hour rates to get professional PPC management.
David gives a lot of advice that I give to business owners daily. While certain things like local search haven't worked their way in to Costa Rica (yet), it is a must for small businesses in many countries. There are still plenty of tips here that small businesses anywhere can use, and it's certainly worth a read.
Well that's just a few of the great posts that you can find at the SEMMYS web site. I encourage everyone reading to head over and read a post or two every chance you get. When they announce the winners I'll have a recap and let you all know.
